What is the
Mother’s Trust
Alliance (MTA)?

The Mother’s Trust Alliance (MTA) is a revolutionary
initiative that redefines what support for Black and
Brown pregnant women means. Co-created with
women whose lived experiences are too often
overlooked, MTA is rooted in Black feminist
principles of joy, liberation, and collective care.

MTA centers the leadership and brilliance of Black
and Brown women. Through direct cash
assistance, we advance economic equity and
forge pathways to radical transformation.

This is more than a program; it’s a declaration:
Black and Brown mothers are not just deserving of
care—they are the architects of liberation and
change.

Why We Exist

Black and Brown women face staggering
maternal health and economic inequities.

Black women are 3x more likely to die from
pregnancy-related causes—not because of
biology, but systemic racism and economic
injustice.

Pregnancy amplifies financial instability,
forcing impossible choices between income
and care. Centuries of racial and gender
inequity have denied Black and Brown
mothers access to the resources they
deserve.

The need is clear: It’s time to dismantle
these barriers and create a future where all
mothers thrive.

Why Basic Income
for Pregnant
Women?

Cash Assistance is Transformative. Direct,
unrestricted income allows Black and Brown
mothers to prioritize their health and the well-
being of their families.

Pregnancy and early parenthood often bring
sharp income drops and rising poverty, especially
for Black and Brown families. Building on the
success of the expanded Child Tax Credit—which
cut child poverty to historic lows—and informed
by global evidence, cash assistance reimagines
how we care for families during this critical time.
